Should I get the city to inspect a rehab home before and after rehab..just before...just after...or not at all?

You can check with your permit dept. to be sure. The first thing you will do is get a permit for the project, city will want outline of work to be done. Ex. if adding a slab ,do the gorund and rebar work to the stage of pouring cement that is when you need the inspection. The inspector will sign off on the job and leave you a paper notice. Same way if doing electrical, do the work but don't cover up before inspector sees and signs off. I have known rehabbers to have to pull down sheet rock to show the wiring because it wasn't signed off on first. If you are just doing light rehab such as repairing sheet rock painting etc do it and go on, where they want to come is in when doing major work, adding windows ,doors additions etc. Hope this helps Jerry

Thank you Financeman. I haven't done a rehab yet so I definitely will not be starting with a major rehab job. My goal is to find one that is just plain ugly and needs alot of TLC. I'll grow into the bigger jobs later.

    Hey Skydiver,
Financeman was right except for one small
detail Once the final inspection is performed. You will be issued a certificate
of Occupancy. This means you can now rent out the proptery . If you rent the proptery out with out this item and someone is in youre rental and something happens too them? Guess who is going to court?
