Sprucing Up Hard Wood Floors
Anyone have any luck cleaning rejuvinating Hardwood floors without stripping them down and refinishing them?
This house that I am closing on tomorrow,the floors are structually very sound but the renters that were there last scratched them up pretty good.
Any Ideas?
You said, "scratches", ....typicaly with scratches they need to refinished....mabye lightly buffed depending on how deep they are.
Are you going to fix and flip it or rent it out?
If renting then why bother?
If resale then I would look at refinishing....get several bids.

The wood just looks kinda dull.
I was thinking of trying Murphy's Oil first.
I wouldn't use the murphys. I think that can do more damage than good depending on the type of finish. I would look at renting a "square buff" from a local hardware store and then just recoat with a polyurethane.
Hello, what is a square buff? I just closed on a home that has hardwood floors that are not scratched but look really dull. I would like to try this process

Its just a big sander with a square base that vibrates back and forth. you place a layer of foam in between the base and a sheet of sand paper. the weight of the sander holds it to the floor. It works well if your just taking off a few layers of topcoat. However, if your looking to strip the top layer of wood off, I'd use a drum sander. Your local rental shop should have everything you need.
Just have them refinished.
I don't know the demographic labor situation down in Florida, but up here in the Northeast, we rehabbers swear by the quick and cheap work done by Vietnamese floor guys.
I just had the hardwoods refinished in a 1250 sq. foot condo for a measly $1000.
And the difference it makes in impressing potential buyers is priceless.
