Scared Of Termites?

doublej0906 profile photo

I am working a short sale on a house that obviously has termites.

I dont know, and guess I wont know the extent of the damage without tearing down the walls and such.

If this turned out to be a successful agreement with the bank for a low payoff, then my exit strategy is to quickly assign this to a buyer for a low fee of $3-$5k.

However I am wondering if most experienced rehabbers tend to stay away from frame homes that have termites. Or do they have some way of knowing what kind of deal they are getting.

I think you need to see the inside to answer some of these questions. If the smell is an issue then you may need to replace drywall in some rooms that were primarily used with the chemicals. I looked at a house last year where a body sat for 5 weeks before being discovered. They had to remove and replace every piece of drywall to get the odor out.

If they only used one or two rooms, then the problem may not be huge.

If you can do a search of this site we had a very informative discussion about meth houses, very eye opening in regard to much more than meets the eye.

Thanks, there is definitely some good information about meth houses on this forum!

As for meth houses in nice neighborhoods, I was very surprised by this, but evidently, there was another one just down the street, and this is one of the nicest areas in Oklahoma City. It boggles the mind how someone can spend $300,000 on a brand new house, and then start cooking meth in it![ Edited by ctdiver on Date 07/18/2005 ]
