Repair Estimate

How much does a repair estimate usually cost?
-Let's pretend it the contractor/handyman that you are planning to hire for the job.
-Do they usually do it for free if you're willing to give them the job?
- If so, what happens when your new estimate is so much more higher than what the seller advertised, and you just can't do this deal? Is the contracotr going to expect something for this, or will he be happy to do an estimate for your next propspect?

I know it's going to depend on the Contractor/person doing the estimate, but again...from your experience hwo does this work?

In my experience, it depends on your relationship with the contractor. If you've worked with them in the past, and they can reasonably expect to work with you in the future, they're not gonna whine too loudly the 1st time. If you keep doing it, then all bets are off. It's not too difficult to do a quick estimate yourself, unless there are hidden damages that you can't see, then, they should show up on the inspection report. I mean, if you go to a house, the owner says it need $2200.00 in repairs, and the ROOF needs replacing, and the inside needs repainted, then it's obvious what's going on...
