Removing Roof Tar From Vinyl Siding

pushcart profile photo

Does anyone know of a good way to remove tar from the siding short of replacing the siding? The tar and gravel roof on a 3 family needs replacement and in the meantime a lot of the tar has dripped down the sides.

    have you tried simple green?

Did the roofer agree to clean-up or have a suggestion?

The roof is older, not sure when the tar started dripping. I am looking to purchase the property, but trying to evaluate all the work it needs. I have never run into tar on siding before. Where can I find Simple Green? Does it dissolve the tar? How does it work? Thanks

Simple Green is a degreaser....try any solvent EXCEPT acetone such as paint thinner, turpentine, mineral spirits. It will not harm the vinyl. Test a spot first. Use a putty knife to gently scrape off the heavy tar.
