Remodeling Kitchen / Bathroom / Flooring

csoul78 profile photo

Hello,

I found a condo that is 2 bdrm 1 bath. I'm kind of interested in it because of the price (which is $67,500) but the unit needs some work (ie...kitchen, bathroom and floor). Therefore, I was wondering if someone (preferably a contractor) could tell me what would be an estimate cost on remodeling a kitchen and bathroom. In addition, how much would it cost to put hardwood floors down throughout the unit.

The dimensions of the place are as follow:

Living Rm 20X14
Dining Rm 09X06
Kitchen 10X07
Bathroom 09X07

MstBd Rm 15X11
2nd Bd Rm 12X12

Whoever replies to this message, thank you so very much for your advice and comments!!!! smile

Somewhere between - $3,000 and $30,000, depending on the level of materials and workmanship you desire.

    Hi Csoul,

No one here on this site is going to be able to give you a realistic price without looking at the job and know what your budget is and what you want.

I seldom give bids anymore for this very reason..........most people have no idea what their budget is.....they are basically just fishing.

Sit down and firgure what your budget is and based upon that price you can decide what is the best bang for your buck.

Contact several licensed LOCAL contractors and get some estimates.
Dont go with the lowest or the highest....somewhere inbetween.

Ask for references and check them out.

    Hello

Do some fishing around. what I mean is go to the stores and look around at the different prices of things. Go to the local Lowes Carter lumber whatever, give them your info and what you would like to do. When they give you somthing you like get it in writing to lock them in to that price that way its garanteed. I'm always looking that way I'm always informed about what the prices are for that particular project. The wife wont even let me go near a home improvement store while I'm with her isnt that a big difference.

Generally I've gotten oak 3/4 already finished from 3.45 to 5.50 sq ft. Just about anyone can put it down themselves but if you have to pay someone...I have no idea. I did a laminate job and hated it as the "feel" underfoot just didn't work for me although it looks good.

im a contractor in virginia u should not pay more than 8.00 a sq.ft. for prefinished hardwood flooring 3/4 inch
but you may have a problem with your sub floor you need to check it out. kitchen and bath rehab hard to give a quote on something like that without seeing it . Install prices may be more or less for flooring where your at. Check with lowes or home depot and see what they are geting for installs that should give you a rough idea.

I paid 3.50 a sq. ft. for material (3/4 oak)
did the installation myself. It was a lot easier than I thought. Then paid $1.00 a sq. ft. to sand and poly. Total $4.50 a sq. ft. + my labor. would I install myself again ? No, I have learned my time is more valuable than what I saved. But I always like to try things at least once so when I am old and gray I can say that I have done it.
