Newbie question: If I am working full time and want to have contractors/handyman working on the property during the day, how do you keep the property secure? Do you give them a key, leave it unlocked use a lock box?

    I use lockboxes with contractors.

I also put up mini-blinds ASAP so people can't see inside. You can easily take them down to paint around them. I used to tape paper to all lower level windows, but blinds can be opened or taken down easily

Don't put your permanent locks in the doors when the contractors are working there. Use a quality "Junk" lock that you can replace with the good stuff once they're out of there. Make sure you make about a dozen copies of the key, and put one in the lockbox. EVERY contractor that comes in there's going to lose it, or not put it back into the lockbox, so you'll be continually replacing it. Then, when they're all done, go replace the locks with the permanent locks, that way, everybody don't have the key to it, just who you want to have, will. Also, if you leave the lockbox there, change the combo on it once the contractors are done, 'cause they'll pass the current combo around like trading cards. grin
