Property Owned By Utility Company

Hey i'm new to this business and just looking for my first house to rehab and get my feet wet so to speak.

Anyways, my question is if anyone has ever dealt with a property owned by a utility company. I found a house that's boarded up/ danger signs on it and looked up the title owner and it is the local natural gas utility in my area. Has anyone ever purchased a house from a utility company, is it even possible or even worth my time? If so, any ideas on the best route to go about buying it?

Thanks in advance!

My guess is that there is much more to this story than you will find from the utility. Try talking with some neighbors about the circumstances around the utility buying the property. If they don;t know - check with the local housing inspections dept. Someone will know the story behind this property and that will save you immense time in trying to get through the red tape at the gas co.
Once you have some idea why, give them a call if it's something you want to pursue.
