Plaster And Lath Removal Tips Appreciated

TheBreadman profile photo

I am removing plaster and lath walls through out the house. We just started the job today with a hammer and pry bar. Has anyone tried a gardening spade or any other tools to pop the plaster quicker?

Thanks.

    spade works well.

Best is a Sawzall or other large recprocating saw.

Cut through the lath and plaster next to every other stud. The plaster will fall off in sheets and the resulting lath scraps are small enough to be shoveled up.

The above info is correct, especially the reciprocating saw. Just be careful and watch for wires and pipes (including duct work).
