Mold

Hello,

Can someone give me an idea on the cost of mold removal? I looked at a foreclosure today, approximately 1700 square ft. house which had mold everywhere, even on the kitchen cabinets. It was in a variety of colors.. black, green, and fuzzy white. The entire house is covered in mold.

Additionally, once there is mold disclosed on a property is it more difficult to sell even if the mold is removed?

The bank is asking $70,000 for the house which when rehabbed could go for $125,000 or more.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Helen

You need to get estimates from local contractors that handle such.............no one here can seriously give an estimate without looking at the problem.

just my 2 cents , but i have bought many homes with mold , i also have remodeled many areas with mold , years before we knew it was bad for a person !!

the way i have delt with it easily is to use water and bleach in a sprayer .... thats it ....bleach kills mold within a few hours ..... it will not grow back unless it has a source of moisture

i did a whole house once that after forclosure they left the water on in the bath tub ...the whole house was mold , windows walls ,ceiling s , i srpayed it with a garden sprayer and then rehabed the house , and lived in it for the next 6 months , it was fine and never returned , caution here is that i burned my lungs because it was cold outside and i didnt have a resprator on and my body didnt like that much bleach smell , so make sure your breathing fresh air some how

i have used this mold kill on many homes , in the basements as well , it always works , however it will grow back if the moisure is high as in a basement wall that contiues to leak . good luck

Great point! Given the existing mold, I probably will offer around $40,000 if I even decide to go with this deal. Thanks for your help.
