in my area.....and it depends on your installer because they can very greatly. i had better luck with small cos. that don't have huge overhead costs.......full install, unit and duct work, 12 seer for a 2 ton it cost me $3020 and for a 12 seer 2.5 ton $3700.......kenmax

Too many variables to say. You really need to get estimates done.

Does it need ductwork done? If so, what is the design of the property, where is the logical place to run ductwork, will it need insulating? How efficient a system are you looking for? etc.

My last install cost $192, the one before that I think $290ish. I do as much as is possible myself and only call in a pro to make the actual hookups. You can find decent prices on HVAC stuff at http://www.grainger.com they have locations nationwide or check e-bay, several sellers of goodman stuff on their, a couple are based in FL.

i own a heating and air conditioning company here in connecticut and the average cost to install air conditioning can vary but rule of thumb is about 4to 6 dollars a square foot depending on quality of equipment and local building codes. grin

Thanks for the replies; the house I'm going to rehab will need a FULL install from ground zero.

This sucker has a gas heater and a window AC unit.

It will need the framing and duct work done. Has anyone ever had this done?

    Thanks!

Hi Mark, I am a female HVAC technician. My husband & I own our own company. You say that you have less than 1300 sq.ft. of home. How much of that is heated space? What type of system do you currently have? There are alot of choices you could choose from:
Split system, Package, Gas, Heat Pump or Electric.

    Sparkle,

    Thanks for the reply!

All of the 1300 sq ft will be heated/cooled area.

There currently is an older gas heating unit which will need to go.

Basically, we will need the wall area near the hallway opened up and framed for the new unit.

As far as the "Split system, Package, Gas, Heat Pump or Electric" question goes, I'm really not sure what these things are. The house has gas, but I'm thinking we may just go with an electric heat pump - whatever is the cheapest.

Is there any way to get an approximate price range? This is not a new house. It will need about 7 vents installed in the attic or crawl space (most homes here in Florida use the attic for HVAC venting).

I was just curious about getting a ball-park estimate for planning purposes. Would $4000 be a good guess?

    Thanks!

    Mark

you can call installers in your area and get an estimate. that is probaly your best bet because they are different by location.....km

Hey Sparkle! another female tech here!
Mark, I think something that wasnt covered here was that price should not be your only concern. You would be well served to get referals from friends or neighbors. Maybe ask at the desk of your local builder supply for a good contractor, not just a cheap one. Sparkle will bear me out I am sure: the price of fixing a bad install does not come cheap. I have seen some sloppy , sometimes dangerous stuff done out there. Make sure you are dealing w/ a reputable hvac contractor. Find out how long they have been in biz, experience, Call the BBB etc.-It will be cheaper in the end.
