Hi All ,

In this REO house that we will be closing on , one of the walls have heavy textured on it, and I was wondering if anyone have any ideas of the best way to remove this texture from the plaster wall.

Thanks for your ideas.

    Thanks Panicfilms ,

These all sound like good tips to try. I am glad it is only on 1 short wall, but it is very heavy texture, and it is very dirty.

Will try to wetting process first, since I have seen this work before.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Gut it, rock it, mud it, sand it, paint it, done.

    Good Luck.

I was stripping wallpaper yesterday, and water was too slow so I thought I would try a different solvent. Windex was the first thing that came to mind, and it was much faster. The only problem was that when I sprayed it near the ceiling, the texture there became so soft that I had to be really careful not to even touch it.

Perhaps my problem is your solution-

    Hey Chris ,

Perhaps it is. I will try a small spot when we close, and report the results back.

    Thanks !

Chris, why the heck are you stripping wall paper?

Hire some illegals to do it for $10 an hour.

On my list of crappy projects, that one gets top billing.

    You have my sympathies.

    Good Luck.

chris, you thread hijacker, get a steamer and that paper will come right off. Then you can use it on your clothes if you ever run out of clean drycleaning.

    Panic-
I was suggesting that ammonia softens drywall texture. How is that hijacking?

    Hi All ,

    Update , Update !!!!!!

We finally found a way to remove the heavy texture that was on the kitchen wall.

I hope this might help someone who may face this awful task

We sprayed the wall even soaked it with warm water , let it stand awhile, and tried scraping , and only was able to remove a quarter size spot. After trying this 4-5 times , the painter I had decided to try skimming it with drywall mud. The next day he was going to try to skim it out flat when he decided to try scraping again , and what to our surprise it start comming right off , and the whole wall was clear within 20 minutes, and ready for primming for painting.

Hope this helps someone if you should have to tackle a heavy textured wall or walls.

    Rehabinator ,

That is one of problems we would have had if we would have had to hang new drywall.

The way it turned out it was less costly and took less time, and we had a good clean wall for painting.
