I recently paid $750 to carpet a 1100 SF house. Installation is $2.50/yrd so subtract that out and you get the pad/carpet cost. This is low end stuff, but these are flips.

For medium grade carpet I plan on $2.50/SF including installation

jpc, you are paying $11/sy for "cheap" carpet with a short life. You can buy snap together, glueless, laminate hardwood flooring with a 15 yr life for under $1 per sq. ft.($9/sy). It's very easy to install, and has 5 - 10 times the life.

If you're planing to flip the property, then cheap is best. I pay about $8-$10/sy with 1/2 "pad and carpet mechanic's labor. This is for carpeting which is a hair above minimum FHA grade carpeting.
