If you see what looks to be a vacant house in need of repair, how would you go about finding the homeowner?

Public records..check the local county records..in NJ there are websites you can research right online..if thats where the property is located.

Mail a letter to the last known address of the last person listed paying taxes on the house.
Here is another thing that may help, slow but can be done. Write a letter to the Social Security expaining you need to contact this person, give them full name you have. Include a Stamped envelope with your return address in the corner and Name but no address in the mail to area. Explain in your letter about this is only hope or way you have of establishing contact. Could they forward it to them. They MAY, but will not tell you the address. Just a thought I have used the info to pass along to people before concering different methods of contacting an individual with no known forwarding address.

Go to your registry of deeds office in your county. Look up last paid tax bill and also where they mail the tax bill to. That NORMALLY gives you a name to start with. Then try as I said before.
