Failing Joist On Second Floor
I am a novice.
Can someone tell me how to determine if a second floor floor joist is failing and is a strutural hazard or defect.

This should be in the building or rehab forum...........but with that said..........to answer your question; joist fail for primarily 2 reaons............it was overated in the first place and or there was additiona weight or stress put upon the joist that caused it to fail.
You can tell they are over stressed because of sagging and or abnormal amount of deflection (movement, bending or bouncing) when you walk over it.
This is a structural hazard and should be corrected.

OMG! I just re-read the original post and it says, "failing," not "falling."

When they say attorney do they mean attorney doing the foreclosure or attorney representing the debtor. Only the debtor could sign a deed in lieu of foreclosure.
A deed in lieu is instead of getting foreclosed the debtor signs the house over to the lender.
