Easy/Fast Way To Remove Ugly Landscaping

d_random profile photo

I have a about six bushes (boxwoods maybe?) that I need to remove from a front yard. What is the easiest way to pull them out of the ground. I have seen some home improvement TV shows that have people hooking a chain to their trucks and yanking the bush out of the ground. Does this method work? Got a better idea?

Yes, that will work - give it a good pull (punch it) and they should come out easily. It also works with juniper bushes as well.

Do NOT attempt this with a tree or tree roots though unless you want to replace the bumper or worse.

You need to wrap the chain around the BASE of the roots of the hedge, other end on the truck and floor it (make sure no one is in front of you obviously). Make sure no one is close in case the chain breaks or comes loose too.

    Hack away the roots some.
I took the timing chain out of a pickup once because the drivetrain is really NOT designed to hit the end of the chain like a junkyard dog.

Pulled out 8-10 old juniper bushes and about 15 small trees/roots using this method at my personal residence and a rehab. Worked good.
