Crown Boilers - Troubleshooting

yehoshua30 profile photo

Hi,
I apologize if this is the incorrect place for this post. The boiler in my building is not working properly. It's brand new (8/2003) but due to lack of bi-weekly maintenance by the prev owner, it's not sending heat upstairs and there is some kind of build up near the glass cylinder.
Any suggestions? thanks.

Get the yellow pages out and call some HVAC contractors and ask them the same question, the odds will be much higher at getting some qualified answers to your questions, probably within 10 minutes of starting the process.

    Hey,

I haven't a clue what a Crown Boiler is, but I would get the manufactors name off the unit and go to their website.

I am amazed how much information on websites. You can generally get all the owners manuals, etc from them and FAQ.

You probably have your problem fixed by now, but...Is it a hot water boiler or a steam boiler? Big differrence between the two. I beleive the glass cylinder you are referring to is the gauge glass -- you can gauge(determine) the water level of the boiler by the height of the column of water in the glass. Very special and dangerously important feature! The build up in the glass is indicative of the overall boiler build-up, this is to be expected of a new boiler. You need to skim-off this junk at the skimming tee. I know alot can happen in a short time, but a boiler used for only one heating season should almost not absolutely be that abused! Possibly air in the system, which can be bleed out with correct steam vents($3 manual, $20 automatic at hardware{not home depot/lowes} store). Is system making loud scare(to a boiler tech it would be!!!!) noises? Probably water hammer. Boilers are lots of fun, & lots of headaches. Boliers are also lots of peace of mind and very reliable when: #1 --- sized CORRECTLY based on existing sq ftg and AMOUNT OF EXISTING radiators present #2 INSTALLED CORRECTLY you want that hartford loop! #3educated owner MAINTAINS BOILER CORRECTLY WITH ADEQUATE BLOW DOWNS, water treatment.
