Cost To Drywall A Room?

writergig profile photo

OK, I know it varies wildly by location and market.
And I've done a Google search to no avail.

What is a ballpark cost on drywalling a room? No ceilings, just the four walls. 20 X 20, 9 ft. ceilings.

Is there any sq. ft. general formula?

This would be in NC, not NYC.

For a medium sized remodeling job you can figure approx $35 - $40 per board installed. All labor and materials included. A "board" is a sheet of drywall 4' x 12' or 48 sq ft. or $ .73 - $ .83 per sq ft installed labor and material.

You have a small job. More a Labor + Material ,Contract Price Job needing 16 boards for 720 sq ft.

    16 4 x 12 x 1/2" drywall @ $12 ea $192
DW Compound / screws, nails, misc $ 50

    Labor ($350 - $400) $400

    Total $650

    Per Sq Ft $ .90

...and if the house is close to manhattan triple that estimate.

If you have 9' ceilings then use 54" x12' instead of 4'x12'.

Your drywall finisher will love you for it, since it gives you less tape joints.

Including waste you are still looking at 16 pieces as long as your studs are 16" O.C.

HD and Lowes typically do not carry 54" but you can get it at a lumber or drywall supply store......... I personally would have the drywall contractor take care of it all.

I pay .62 cts a sf however since it is a smaller job, the .90 cts a sf should take care of it.

Also your drywall contractor will want to know how you plan to finish off the beveled edge of the sides of the drywall near the ceiling..............crown mould etc....

here in florida according to my estimater book 1.78 per sq foot is the rate I would charge including material and demo and protecting floors etc, depending on how the client will be to deal with and access to the house and how soon they want it done also is a factor,a client thaty seems like they will be a pain in the butt always gets charged more, the same as one who will expect you to carry a consersation all day with too will get charged more
