Asbestos

I am looking at a property that has asbestos in the outside walls. The walls that form the outside of the house. So the interior has no asbestos. Has anyone had experiance with this? The realtor is telling me that because of where it is placed, it poses no hazard and will not encumber the sale. I have no clue on this one and am looking for someone who has one. The property is located in New Jersey. Thanks.

Generally the realtor is correct. Asbestos is fine as long as it is not sanded, ground up, become airborne and inhaled. On the exterior it probably has layers of paint over it and is sealed up nice and safe like.

If asbestos siding were banned, there would be a lot of homeless people in this country, as asbestos sided houses are commonplace in some parts.

Asbestos siding is durable and of course, fire proof, plus it holds paint well. The only downside I can think of is replacing missing or cracked sections.

I have never had trouble selling an asbestos sided house. Thinking people know that if you do not break it up and breath it in, it is not dangerous. Many old vinyl sided houses, actually have asbestos underneath. Just disclose the asbestos siding when you sell.

Once again, I have been enlightened. Seems that I have nothing to worry about. Thanks for the info all!
