Abandoned House

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the process is for getting ownership of abandoned property? Is there a state/city/county department that I need to talk to?

By abandoned, I am assuming you mean that there is no legal owner? Or do you mean that the property is vacant and has been for a while?

If there is no clear title to the property, a good attorney may can help you. This within itself is an investment niche. John aka Jack T. Reed writes an article on this in his book on how to buy property at 20% below market value available on his website.

If it is a vacant property, start with the tax assessor's office in your county. You can find the owner of the property through tax records. Normally this can be done online. Then, send them a letter or skip trace them to find a phone number.

Not sure if this helps, but maybe it will.
