Has anyone heard from the people who were hit by the hurricane? I just moved to Oklahoma from the Port Charlotte area a few months ago. I have a lot of friends there. I've been able to get through to North Port, but not to Port Charlotte. If anyone else here is concerned about the situation, NBC 2 News from Fort Myers is broadcasting live over the internet.

I have not been able to reach any of my Port Charlotte friends either. I have a boat in a marina at Punta Gorda which is pretty much ground zero. No word from anyone there. From what I do hear PC and PG did not fare well.

Heard from my friends in www.Ft.Myers thats been pretty bad up there. About 15 people killed and billions in damages.

Try this website http://www.tbo.com. It gives an idea of how massive the destruction was.

By the way, has anybody heard from John Locke lately? Tampa was not hit that bad but lots of folks from there evacuated toward Orlando which, while farther from the water, got hit much harder. Wondering what Locke is up to.

John and I decided to leave Tampa for the east coast early AM on Friday after seeing no change in the track. We are now back in the Tampa area and OK.

While driving eastbound yesterday, I stopped at a Shell station in Lake Wales, FL, and when driving back today … half of the station was gone. There were metal rooftops in the center divider of the highway and many trees and power lines down. Damage to the area and buildings was significant. It was a mess and of course everyone was pitching in and helping each other. Those in the center path took the brunt of this monster, while the outer fringes had little to no damage. Now the clean-up begins.

Not looking forward to seeing another one. Been a long couple of days, time for some rest.

I finally talked to someone in Port Charlotte. He was at St. Joseph's in Port Charlotte, one of the three hospitals that are no longer operational throughout the storm. He said that Port Charlotte is bad, and Punta Gorda is worse. He also said that Arcadia is pretty much leveled, and that the destruction was particularly bad along highway 17, which is where he lives. He lost half of his house. He drove through Punta Gorda and said that he thinks the whole building will have to be torn down and rebuilt. Has anyone seen images of any of the hospitals? Also, according to the news, the rescue crews and National Guard have been impressively organized and very quick to begin the rescue efforts.

If anyone hears anything, please keep the rest of us posted.

I have properties in Ft Myers, one of my properties got a tree through the roof and it smashed the tenants car as well. Got some interesting pictures if anyone is interested. Thank goodness no flooding as I don't have that covered. Port Charlotte looks pretty darn rough. My parents in Cape Coral got hit hard too. Could've been much worse from my standing though.

If anybody gets a chance to check on the Rivera marina at the south end of Punta Gorda I'd appreciate an update-- How's Barry the owner and how's my boat?

In times like these, the Chicago weather doesn't seem so bad.
Good luck to everyone on the way.

    arborlis,
Where are you man? I came by your house and you were not home. I asked the neighbors and they said a couple of black SUV's drove up to your house. They said you must have been late to a formal dinner or somthing because those guys were all wearing black suits and seemed to be in a hurry.
    When are you comming home?

  • arborlis15th August, 2004

realagent, they came to the front with their weapons drawn. I turned the dogs loose on them and hit the back door running fast as I could. I called my buddy who flies choppers for the hospital airwing. He flew me to Elvis' secret vacation home. When I arrived, I was greeted by two go go dancers with mexican street sweepers (oozies) holstered to their thighs. I then suplicated the King for his help. He made a couple of phone calls to some ex CIA guys and said everyhting would be fine if I kept my mouth shut. When I arrived home the following day there was a message from my bank letting me know that someone had deposited a large amount money into my checking and savings accounts. Need I say more?
