Access To The MLS

How does one get access to the MLS without being a realtor or broker? Not the stripped down version you find on every realtors web site, the real one that realtors and brokers use.

I've heard you can get access to the MLS by becoming a member of something, but I've not been able to find any specific information.

Thanks
Mike

Each geographical area has it's own MLS, which is governed by a group in that particular area.
You may want to contact your local MLS directly and ask them. Frankly, I highly doubt one would get access to full MLS services without a license. However, there may be exceptions in some geographical areas.
A wealth of knowledge can be gleaned from the MLS system. Getting a license is not that difficult, and I would encourage you to pursue gesuch education. You will not only be able gain access to MLS, but increase your real estate knowledge in the course.
    Good Luck!

Get in good with a broker--refer him lots of business--make him lots of money and he/she may give you access (off the record of course).

Does getting a License alone get you access to the MLS systems? Do you not have to be employed by a broker? This may only be state law, but in Kentucky I think to sell real estate you have to work for a broker, but will a broker just hire you to basically free lance and work for him only when you want to??

every MLS i've seen is run by Realtors, so, no, not just an agent, you'll need to be a member of the Realtors. Becoming an agent isn't difficult, or a member of the Realtors either. Your just going to have to find a realtor to buddy up with.

If you get a "job" as a secretary for any real estate office, you can get access to MLS via Secretary ID. And secretaries are not licensed.....smile

Go to www.Realtor.com and look around.......maybe you will find what you are looking for there.

    Quick note on www.Realtor.com...

Yes, it contains a lot of listings. No, it doesn't contain them all. They shake the realtors down for money to promote their listings on www.realtor.com as well. It doesn't come along with their normal MLS fees. Some decide not to pay. In other words - it IS a good resource. It is NOT a good substitute for MLS access. You don't even have access to sold prices - only the asking price.

And for the person from Lexington - in most areas there are agencies that will accept part-timers. I've chosen not to go this route so far - but it may be right for you.

    Access To The MLS
In Texas you have to be a member of The Board Of Realtors and a Member of MLS, we are licensed agents and brokers. Cost is $500 For the board and about $300 to join MLS. There is a reason for this and its in the Code Of Ethics, we belong to and Equal Housing Laws. If you need info www.Realtor.com does not have, ask your local Real Estate office for info, like a list of Sales in an area you are looking into. Some things are private between Seller and Agent, and that info will not be disclosed to you.
    Hope this helps,
    Linda Tx :-o
