Tenants Abandoned Property
I'm in CA talking with an out of town seller, has a property they will sell cheap. Had a tenant in the house that quit paying rent and voluntarily abandoned the property 80 days ago. Left all kinds of stuff: furniture, clothes, 2 cars. I am near the seller - the property is 3 hours away.
What does the owner have to do to legally notify the former tenants that we are going to dispose of all of their stuff, including the cars?

What the seller should do is take a copy of his lease agreement to his attorney to address this question in the context of your state landlord tenant laws.

I'm in CA. Yes, I know that these kinds of things are state specific and I will need to examine the exact "letter of the law" going forward.
I was looking for some general feedback on anyone that had any experience with these types of situations. I have thus far (through other contacts) heard things like putting a notice in the paper, sending a 15 notice to reclaim or relinquish all rights (to said personal property) to the forwarding address of the former tenants, etc... this is the level of info I was trying to get here.
Anyone that has CA specific info would be great but I was not that optimistic. Thx

You should also consult an attorney. If you buy this property, you inherit the current lease and the current tenant. If the abandoned property issue is not resolved before you buy, you also inherit that problem.
In my lease I have a section that states if they abandon the property, I am allowed to take the property back in 10 days and all property left behind in disposed of at their expense.
If the abandonded the property and you are worried legally, start eviction proceedings and have the property removed. I am guessing that have not paid the rent either.
