just about anything that would cause as a safety concern.

Cracked concrete or tripping hazards, windows not staying up, wiring exposed/loose, hand rails, Smoke detectors, in some cases excessive trash, paint chipping, make sure no gutters/roofing leaks and so on.

Do an Internet search on "The Section Eight Bible" and read some of the stuff these guys recommend for passing inspections.

Maple cabinents in kitchen, granite countertops (some inspectors will accept corian in lower rent areas), solid cherry flooring (no pergo), 6 panel doors, brushed nickel hardware....

Here they check all the outlets, making sure they work as well as each appliance, ( they will turn on each appliance) no dripping faucets, water heater and toilet are working properly. If the tenant is handicapped they make sure there are grab rails in the bathroom. These things as well as the tripping and paint issues that have already been mentioned.

In a suburb of Ohio, I had a less than 7 minute inspection. Since the house was very clean, the tenants said his inspection would be very quick and it WAS! He checked the water, looked at the furnace and counted smoke detectors. I was worreid about a missing piece of sticky linoleum tile hidden under a small rug. No problem!
