Rule Of Thumb

This may seem silly, but I was wondering what is the rule of thumb for whether to include blinds or not when renting a unit. The reason I ask is that in NY - that is in the boroughs my dad rents out his units without blinds and there is never a question or balking about it from the prospective tenant. They understand they need to supply their own blinds, it just seems like a given there and no one questions it. I currently live in North Carolina and it appears that units that get rented here must have blinds already up. Now is that just coincidence or does it depend on the location? market? supply/demand of apartments or what? Just curious.......

We always include mini blinds in our units. As Donnie said, it saves a lot of patching and re painting. The blinds we use are inexpensive (under $10) so replacing one or two is not so bad between tenants.

They are cheap so not worth the time to clean them after each tenant.
So I supply new blinds with each new tenant. So that I can install the brackets right and have some privacy while we get ready to rent. All new can still add up.

So my lease states new mini blinds are installed and tenant is required to replace with new ones when they move. Or if tenant wishs lanlord will remove before move in and tenants can supply thier own window coverings.

Nobody every ask that I remove.

Thanks folks - I guess it makes sense to provide them. Thanks for the feedback.

Buy aluminum blinds if you are going to consider renting to Section 8 in Wake County.
Vinyl blinds are not acceptable due to possible lead hazard.

Thanks Mike - thats helpful. I have a unit that will be getting inspected soon so I better get hanging those aluminum blinds. Any other tips? This will be my first S8 tenant....well the first that I will be involved in renting to from the start.

I just bought some vinyl blinds last week at Home Depot for under $4.00 each. On the box it advertised that it contained no lead.
