Moving In Before Lease Begins

any compelling reasons to not let a family move in early?

they signed the lease and paid the deposit last weekend. This a.m. she paid November's rent. the house is vacant and ready. is there any good reason for me to not allow them to get the keys on Saturday and start to move in?

    Is this your property?
If so, Why not? If not, you better check w/owner first.

I have done this but I always have it in my lease, either as a pro-rate time w/pro-rate costs, or as a freebie. That way it is always clear and documented. I like my tenants to know when I do something for them. I also will be clear when they are transferring the utilities.
If I were you, I would add a quick written addendum to give them permission and ask them to transfer utils. tomorrow.

I've seen this question before and someone recommend having them re-sign the lease with the new move-in date (and then not charge for the additional time) just so that there is no "out" for them.

    Hey,

If I read this right, you are talking about giving them a few days extra for free at the end of the month prior to their lease starting. I do this all the time; for me, it is no big deal.

thanks guys. Especially with the first being a Monday I couldn't figure out any reason not to give the weekend. I typed up a one paragraph Addendum giving them early possession at no charge. Utilities are to be switched tomorrow.
