Building Owner To Face Civil Charges In Porch Collapse
CHICAGO -- Chicago's building department is announcing its intention to sue the owners and managers of the apartment building where 13 people died this past weekend in a porch collapse.
Officials allege there was no permit to build the porch, and that the three-story building was illegally converted to three units from five. On Thursday, they'll be seeking a court order that the porch be replaced immediately -- up to code -- and that daily fines be imposed for any code violations.
