Evicting Tenants

I have two deadbeats in two of my properties that I am in the middle of evicting. Unfortunately, the previous owner never collected SS#. When I get the judgment, I want to garnish wages and make sure it is on their credit report.

Anyone have any creative ways to find SS#? Or any other recommendations? The one tenant owes me a lot and it is really worth my $ to pursue this.

Have you considered checking to see if it is recorded through thier Utility contracts? It's a start. wink

Yes, they have to disclose their social security number to get gas and/or electricity. However, the utilities companies will not disclose their SS# to me.

I may be wrong but wouldn't you get that info when you take them to court? The Judge who orders the ruleing to take wages can get that info. It may be different from state to state. Ask your Lawyer.

I will do that. My main fear is they won't show up in court. But I guess if the judge rules that I have rights to the information, I could provide that to the utility companies and they would have to disclose.

www.accurint.com is a 'pay per search' service that can be pretty useful at times. Typically, if a person has had utilities in their name, a basic search by name, approximate location, and age range will yield a SSN. When we signed up about a year or so ago, searches were 25 cents -- I'm not sure if they've raised it for new customers or not.

    Good Luck.

I just discovered that if I have an approved judgment and subpeona the utility company, they will disclose info.

Has anyone had any luck garnishing wages with an approved judgment or am I hoping for too much?
