AC System Security

Where I have my rental units there has been a rash of people stealing the outside AC unit once the unit is empty. Does anyone have a solution for this? Metal cages don't work. They just cut them and pull them up.

Thanks,

Tim

I work as an HVAC contractor. The best method some of my customers have is to sink 2" oilfield pipe about 18 inches in the ground then cementing them in. Do this all around the ac, one on each corner then one in the center of each side then have a welder weld the same pipe across the top in a couple of places. Allow room for service access.

So they're doing that in Georgia too huh? Seriously , I have seen that happen often in lower middle to lower income areas. I personally just go with the flow and don't offer ac. I found that I don't have anymore difficulty renting my units, and the little extra I get for offering a central ac just covers the extra cost of having a central unit. Try using motion detector lights. They are very cheap and crooks seem to be much more leary of lights that turn on and might attract attention to them than continuously on security lighting.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the pipe idea. How much should this run about? I want to make sure its cost effective. Buying the unit outside is about $500.00.
