Aarrgh!

Damn! Just when things get quiet something has to rear it’s ugly head.

Last July we found that the water supply line in one of our houses was leaking. Not much, but enough to run back to the meter, fill up the box, trickle out and disappear. But not more than a gallon a day. Of course, after getting three bids of $2000+ to replace the whole line, I decided to check it out myself so I trucked on over on the hottest day of the year and dug through 2 feet of good ole’ red clay and pine roots. Found the leak, turned off the water, put in a union, and covered it back up. Felt pretty good about it, too.

Here is where I should mention that the house was built in the late 80s and the line was gray pipe or quest as some of you may recognize. Quest gets brittle with age among other bad traits. Didn’t know it had ever been approved for supply lines in this county, but oh well.

So, long story short, high winds come, pine tree goes “sway”, roots go arghh, pipe goes pop. Roots probably didn’t move ½”. New line installed $2200.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I really do love this business.

Jim

House 1 - just found live termites, mysteriously the garage door has fallen off the tracks, and there is some mysterious substance growing over some of the baseboards that I suspect is a type of mold.

House 2 - suppose to sell in two weeks and the lender has yet to give me a payoff. house had been in foreclosure and i paid off the mortgage at the court house three months ago and the money is still at the court house. I will need to get a lawyer for this one.

House 3 - Had the handyman paint the wood floors. The roofers needed to go to the bathroom and walked on the wet wood floors. Sent a plumber out to give me an estimate on adding a washer to the garage and the plumber told me "that it is not possible to add a washer" ????

Okay so we are all telling War stories.

just last week I was signing a check for my Gardner who by the Way never seems to show up until the day after the appraiser so the appraisers pictures look like the house is condemned with weeds and grass half way to your knee caps..

anyway , so as I am signing the check I get this paper cut... man it hurt and it almost bled...

I will never do that again...
