This website has some great advice. Also, try your local real estate investors club. All the big cities have them. Most small cities have them also. You can network with some new as well as seasoned investors. Take somebody to a nice lunch and ask them questions.
As far as books: Rich Dad, Poor Dad is always a good one to get the mind set for investing.

Rather than suggest a series of books, I suggest you Investigate every nook and cranny of this site.
You will find most everything you need to thrive, especially if you follow the downloads posted in the various forums.
