How To Convert 4 Fam. To Condo?
I want to convert a 4 family in Jersey City to condos. Some of the units are in great shape, while the others need some refurbishing. I don't want to gut renovate. One of the problems is (other than the fact that I've never done this before, and need all of the help I can get)
what happens if the local/state inspectors say the electrical/plumbing needs to be upgraded? Or they find out a wall here or there wasn't studded properly. The house is 150 years old, and while it's in great shape and somone along the way upgraded the electric, it still may not pass current codes. How can I find out what to expect from these inspectors ahead of time?
I see condo conversions with non-renovated units all the time. What is the criteria for converting an older unit??
If you get with your local code enforcement office, they will have booklets and guidelines that you can either view on line or pay for at there office. Most of the booklets here in florida you dont have to pay for, but some of the more extensive paperwork or books on certain protocals do cost.
