Sticking Business Cards On Gas Pumps
Has anyone done this?
How much trouble will I get in?
I put up about 35 cards at about 6-10 stations in town...no quality leads on the bandit signs yet!

I don't know anything about whether you will get into trouble for putting business cards on gas pumps - on the pumps themselves? Seems like the gas station people will just take them down and throw them away unless it's on some kind of bulletin board or something.
But ya never know, maybe one or two cards may get picked up by real 'takers' before that happens. ??

I don't see why it wouldn't work and it only costs 0.02.
You could also:
1) Drop them off at tables in Fast food joints
2) Tape them in public transportation (bus, trains, etc.)
3) Put them in front of urinals in Men's Bathrooms
I don't think any of it is very classy, but the cost is verv, very low.
i tried the gas station thing, mangers got HEATED!!!
Who knows? If the right person picks it up, they may view it as serendipity and give you a call. I say go for it.

Were these cards on magnetic backs? Just a thought.
I don't know about the gas pumps, but I noticed in another of your posts about putting flyers on people windshields at Walmart.
I don't even consider that an option anymore, even back in the 80s when I was running another type of business I tried those tactics and after about the 3rd time repeating it a a supermarket or something, inevitably I would get a response, however, it wasn't a prospect, but the manager informing me that they were sick of having to pay to have their parking lot cleaned up of all the flyers blowing around that their customers would throw on the ground after reading them, and that the next time I did it they would be charging my company for the clean up.
You may or may not experience this, but just like bandit signs, some people live in a market where they are left alone, others live in a market where people go around and tear them down and others live in a place where the city will fine you for each sign. So beware some of your gorilla marketing may have consequences, you are inventing this stuff, it has been around for a long time.
I lost several bandit signs this weekend, but I think I know where to put them and where not to put them now.
I just spoke with a woman who took one of my gas pump cards today!
They were not magnetic. Good old fashioned scotch tape!

Using a magnetic card totally defeats the cost advantage. I would just push them in to the edge of the pump.

Using the magnetic cards may defeat the so called cost advantage, but my cards wont blow off the pump once I put thenm there..haha. Besides, the cost is minimal in that scenario and as far as I am concerned, cost effective..once someone takes it home, is doesn't wind up in a drawer, the put it on the refrigerator and it is seen everytime they open the door for a beer! Cost covered when they call me for help!! Acceptable overhead for me. In fact, I do put some of my cards on magnets like that just for that reason.

I have magnetic business card holders. I bought them at Office Depot for (I think ) $20 for 50. I peal the front of the magnet off and it has a sticky sided and then you put a busines card on it. I give these to my tenants.
Is this what you are using or something else?
That just seems to me to be very expensive. I was thinking that a gas station has ten pumps. That will cost you $4 to put one at each pump. Versus $0.10 for just the card.
You have a good point about them blowing away in the wind, so maybe it is false economy.
Yes I place my cards at the gym, Wal-Mart, fast food joints, where ever!

Yes, I do use the same ones you are talking about. I agree, 4.00 per gas station is a bit high, but 1 deal pays for everything. My next venture in advetising is Magnetic signs for my Truck! So far, my best response has come from letters I send to pre-foreclosures. I have passed out business cards, magnetic cards, flyers and put out bandit signs. I'll figure out what works best in my area before long. Kind of poke and hope right now...but, gonna keep pokin!!

This is actually a great idea and something not known to many people. If you want a fast easy way to do them, go to VistaPrint and order like 1000 of them for $189.00...almost as cheap as business cards.

I've done this too. At the Gas Pump. Also stuck all around the ATM machines. No leads but hey, it put my name in front of them.
