Is it better to go through a listing agent to get on MLS or going through the above service is just fine?

Pam when using Forsalebyowner you actually using a local member of your MLS... I bet if you call the Board of Realtors and ask them who they know that does flat fee mls listings you may be able to get the best of both worlds..
I will caution you that Realtors do not appreciate those that discount their fees...And it may slow the amount of active buyers down..
You should weigh the cost of commission against the cost to hold and subsequent loss of future investments.
The cost of commission can be mitigated by a fast sell, sometimes not...
