What is the concensus on numbers to use on sign marketing. Is it preferable to use a local # or do Toll-Free numbers get the same results?

    If you check around I think you will find that you can use both for a minor extra charge compared to just a local number. Hence you have more flexibility.

    Hey,

    You don't mention it, but are you trying to attract sellers from a different area (hence the need for an 800 number)? If so, people don't want to pay for the call, so you HAVE to get an 800 number.

    If you are staying with a local area, why would you want an 800 number? It costs more and you will get little, if anything for your extra money.

    Maybe you are trying to appear to be a LARGE company, but I think that turns off more people than it attracts.

    The main reason for an 800 # is the vanity aspect. Getting like a 800-XXX-4SELL or something of the like...

    It would probably be in my non local area.. but its easy enough to get a local # that will forward to me.. I just am wondering response wise.. do people think.. 'ahh its an 800 number must be a big blah blah company'

    And as far as the cost of an 8** number its as cheap as $2 month plus the incoming minutes.. usually around 7 cents a min.

    I am not sure that there is a real argument over local vs. 800 purely for which one gets more response in your ad.

    Vanity #s were mentioned and those certainly DO increase response on a sign. Sometimes a cell carrier will let you pick a number in which case you can get a vanity # w/o getting an 800#.

    You will find that it is hard to get a good toll-free vanity # these days though.

    The two big reasons I have a toll free # are:

    1. It is a 24-hr recorded message line. Placing "24-hr recorded message" in your advertising does increase response.

    2. My 800 service captures the name, number, and address of the caller 75%+ of the time, even if they have caller ID blocking.

    I have an 800 number and it was $10 per line per month, I have 2 - push 1 for buyers, push 2 for sellers. plus its 16 cents per minute -
    my total bill last month was $49

    The 800 is working great for me - I have it in the paper and use it in my letters and its working.

    I have a 888 number thru Qwest ... very reasonable !!

    Qwest 1-800-860-1020 Customer Service.

    I believe mine cost 5 cents per minute and it rings into my office line so I do not have to pay for another line.

    Highly recommend Qwest. I was referred to them by another business ... glad I switched from ATT . Qwest cut my bill down to only 1/3 what I was paying ATT and I receive a lot of calls.

    I have an 888 number through the corner cube.
    Costs $20 a month
    99 extensions
    Worth every penny
