Release Insurance Info??

64Ford profile photo

I have a buyer of a multi-family property that is wanting us to sign a release for our insurance information. This is the first time I've ever been asked to sign such, and feel it is a bit of an odd request.
I cannot think of any reason not to sign. We aren't hiding anything, and haven't had any claims. Nevertheless, it just seems like an unusual thing to ask for.
Any insight/comments?

Well, while I can't say I see any big objection, my rule is before I GIVE something, I want something in return from the other side...so I'll demand something from them in return.

In fact, here, I think I'd make them absolutely commit and get their funds into escrow before letting them look at your property records, insurance, etc....so you'll soon know how serious they are...or aren't.

Did you ask their reason for the request? It may be that they need a referral to insure the property if they buy it, as hard as the market has been...
