I was told that I need to have a license to be an REI . Is this true? if so, is there an advantage to having an REI license in GA?

As a real estate investor you will not need a realtor lic if you take ownership of the subject investment.

NO license of any kind is required to be an REI, except maybe a DL if you want to see the RE & don't want a chauffeur on your payroll wink

A lot of REIs are licensed, as I am, & even though I am a lawyer with a good bit of personal RE experience and knowledge, I have learned a good bit about RE buying, selling and operating from my RE Broker's course & CE & my association with other licensees.

Disadvantages of being licensed? Well, I've never seen any disadvantages except some ignorant people don't want to deal with an Agent or Broker.

Whenever I suspect that is going to be the case, I tell them that although I am a Broker, I'm really looking at their property for me only, & I have no interest in listing their RE, & that seems to assuage their anxieties. ..& frequently get the listing if I don't buy it personally !

No, it's not required here. Advantage? Just because it's in Georgia? No more so than in any other state, I don't think. This is one of them topics that have been beat to death in MANY threads/forums, and can be easily searched for, and researched.
