Do I Need To Register As A Business In States Where I Let Property?

glynnor profile photo

Hi,

I am in the process of buying in Phoenix, AZ and Georgia. At first these properties will be in my name but in Jan of next year I want to create an LLC to put them in. Do I need to register to do business in the states where I collect rent on these properties?

Thanks :-?

This has been covered a number of times, as a search of archives would show you.

But, to repeat, most states' decisions say that an outofstate LLC owning and RENTING RE in their state, is required to register that outofstate LLC in state B.

So, yes, you are so required and the penalties for your failure to do so are you'll be giving up some legal defenses if you're sued.

Yes you should register doing business as in all states that you plan to operate in. I would search for each states home page on the net and read how to do business in each state as many will allow you to register online.

Good luck on your investing carrier.

Thank you both for your replies. Sorry that I wasn't aware of the archive. I'll search before asking next time...though if I had done that, I would have denied you the pleasure of helping me wink

    Thanks

    Not a problem glynnor,

Us old timers get a little curt sometimes when we have to deal with what we perceive as the same old question asked and answered a 100 times.

It is my opinion that if you don't ask you don't learn, so do a little research and if the answers do not fit your need "ASK AWAY".
