Chicago Deck Collaps + Liability?

Howdy friends! You all have likely heard of the tragic deck collapse accident in Chicago that killed 13 people. IF you haven't read the following story:****Must Reach Freshman Investor status before posting URL's*** Here's a question. Say I have an LLC that does the management for my rentals held in LP's. That LLC also does minor repairs and serious rehabbing. What if I don't get a bonded and insured contractor (with proper permits) to put up a deck or a light fixture. Can that make the LLC liable for any accidents--like the above deck disaster? Can I personally be liable if I'm a member and it's member-managed? (For the second question I'll try to answer that myself--No! LLC=Limited Liability Company). -Jonathan Andrew Wolter
