Researching Leins

Tlynn profile photo

I hope to "Quit Claim" my interest in a partnership. However, I have been told there is a lein on it. Since the partnership is with my former husband and his family, I can't get info as lines of communication are strained. Can someone please help me start my research on the alleged lein by pointing me in the right direction? I appreciate any help you may have.

Thanks!

    Tlynn,
tough position, what type of partnership is it, there are many. You can get out of the partnership any number of legal ways. Check your partnership agreement and follow the release guidelines, if there is no agreement you will have a more difficult time, verbal agreements do not count to the judges. Start your research with the original partnership agreement, you may hav to go to the atty that drafted it in order to get a copy.
    Good luck

    Tlynn,

your search should start at your county court house. If the lien was filed, then it is public record. If it is public record, you can find it wherever county records are filed. Just as one of the clerks to help you locate the particulars abuot a lien that was filed against the partnership.

Also, think about talking to the attorney that drafted and filed the partnership. He should be willing to "direct you" about where you can find the particulars of the lien.

Also, there is a website where you can obtain some free preliminary advice. Email me privately and I will give it to you. I am not allowed to give websites openly in the forum. Good luck.
