Land Trusts on a VA home????

I am a newbie in need of experienced opinions. I have been looking at VA foreclosure homes in the Vegas and Phoenix areas. I am looking to buy a home, rent it out, and hold it over the long term. Should I only buy homes through a Land trust? Can I bid on a home with a land trust? If I buy a home in my own name, can I transfer the home into a land trust? This question is mainly an asset protection question, and it came up as I was reading Robert Shemin's REI book . Any thoughts on this topic are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nightshade
