How Do I Get Rid Of This?

mj profile photo

I purchased a foreclosure property that has an automoble on the property. This vehicle is worth less as it has smashed shields, flat tires, water in side from all the rain/storms we've had lately along with all kinds of garbage inside. I have been told by neighbors the vehicle has been there for several months. The vehicle doesn't have any plates on it so I can't even find out who owns it. I am just assuming it was owned by the person who was foreclosed on. How do i get rid of the vehicle if I don't have title to it. I called a few places and they won't touch it with out a title. I called the police station and they said call a towing company.

How can I get rid of this car?

If you want to find out who owns it go to the drivers side. Standing outside look at the dash in the correr you should see a plate. Get the VIN number.

As for getting rid of the car I would go to the police station and ask them.

In most areas of Florida the owner will be liable for the costs of removal and destruction.

You will need to send out a certified letter to all listed owners and get either a certificate of destruction or title before a car can go to the salvage yard or be towed to a company for crushing.

When you purchase the property you purchased the problem and you will want to get on this ASAP or you may face code violations by the city or county.

There are a number of local organizations that will accept the donation
    of a junk vehicle.

Simply call a towing company and explain that you purchased a property with an abandon vehicle on it and you're wanting the vehicle removed. Let them know that it is very unlikely that the owner will claim the vehicle. Some companies may not want to mess with this.

This is what I just did a couple of months ago.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I understand that I need to send out certified letter to the owner but what if I find that the vehicle was registered to the owners teenage son and I don't have an address for him. Should I just send it to the mother? Can I put a deadline date for her/him to remove it from the property else it would be considered abondon?

You only send the letter to the last known address on title along with following your state guidelines on response time.
