Homeowner's Insurance

Here's the deal:

I purchased a home PRIOR to actually purchasing home owner's insurance. Let me explain: State Farm provided a copy of the insurance form to my mortgagor so that the closing can take place - that was a month ago. Last week, the insurance rep completed the process by coming to my home and taking pictures, picking up the check; etc. I didn't have a home alarm system installed in my home until today (remember: completion of the insurance process took place last week). The insurance agent told me that if I added any of things to my home that could be deducted from the price of the insurance, I would have to wait six months to get that reduction. Is this true? Can I call him up today and tell him I now have a home security system in my home and to deduct 20% off of my insurance cost?

The reason I went ahead and paid for the insurance prior to having the system installed is because the huge lapse in time from the time I closed.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your 2 cents Tim!

Yes, this is MY home. I purchased it last month (June 17th). I would definitely ask the agent if he could rewrite the policy that will include the discount.

    Thanks again.
