Getting People To Answer The Door.

I am a door knocker. Many times I know that people are home, but they do not answer the door. I do not believe it is because they are trying to avoid me, I believe that most often they do not hear me. I know that I can not hear my door bell from my bedroom. And just yesterday I went to visit a friend and had to walk around the back to finally get him to see me. But of course, sometimes it could be that the home owner is avoiding the person at the door.

What are some techniques that you use to get people to answer the door?

I believe you. I thought it was accident with a wink.

Sometimes I don't hear my door bell. It is kind of far. Once my family was away and I was working at my desk. I saw horrified to see a female neighbor next to my window (I was wearing my boxers only). She was startled as well. She was looking for her cat on my property and knocked on my door; but I didn't hear. Then again, once I heard the bell on an early Saturday morning, hurried to the door and saw 2 Jehova's witnesses standing there, asking me questions about the future of mankind.

bgross, what do you do if they don't answer? Are you leaving some information?

Something I'm going to try is a large post-it note pre-printed similar to UPS or USPS notes and stick it on the door. On it have a checkmark saying you'll return at a specified time or they can call you to cancel the "appointment". Of course when they call you give them your pitch.

Are you knocking on the doors of people who are in foreclosure? If so, that may answer your question as to why they are not answering.
