Well, Haven't given it much thought. I thought we had too many actually.

Anybody else think this is a good idea??

Joel: We DO have a lot of forums...and we continually enjoy readers (myself included ESPECIALLY) posting comments about how pleased they are to have had access to the kinds of people and advice we're so lucky to have here on TCI.

From what I've seen, you have provided a very different site at TCI, with a following of really good folks, all of whom have felt warmly welcomed and encouraged by the others---that makes TCI a 'niche' in my opinion--because that same comaraderie isn't everywhere. Much credit to you and our moderators.

More forums? More topics? More sharing?

    I vote Y E S !!

    PositiveDestiny,

Yes, this board is here to share and help each other become better real estate investors.

I have seen where if someone posts eleswhere " I just bought a house and it is painted red, should I repaint it?" 3 posters will call you a communist for buying a red house.

Joel, has placed his trust in his moderators, on my watch there will be no degrading of any poster or policy of TCI broken. We should all feel welcomed here, this site has been made available to us, so let's treat it and each other with respect.

More forums huh, well Joel if your are game so am I. Is there any that should be deleted or combined?

ok, i'm not complaining. i know this is negative, but you were asking for feedback. in my opinion it's too fragmented - too many forums. even though i could learn things form all of these forums or share some experiences myself, it just takes too much time for me to click on each forum just to see if there's a subject that's pertains to something i'm doing. so, i just don't bother looking. it takes a long time to load a page. i can usually play a game of freecell while i wait for a page to load. i know, it's my choice not to have dsl, but i have a 900 mhz 'puter, so it's not that slow. agian, i'm not complaining, just wanted to let you know how i react to what's here.

    Joel--

Michaela makes a truly good point that I hadn't considered (I'm spoiled because I have cable and can access quickly and can have multiple URL's on line at one time); it would be a shame to discourage anyone (especially newer folks trying to learn to navigate the board) from being a part of what we've got going here.

Is there a way that you could contact Michaela, who is very experienced both on this board, in the industry, and with the limitations of online speed that many many folks work with? Perhaps you two could brainstorm on solutions to hers (and no dobut others') concerns?

Maybe your webmaster genius can give us the best of BOTH worlds with some not-so-difficult (for all of US, anyway !!) adjustments to the site that would allow folks an easier way to pick and choose what they wanted to access with less time?

Back to Michaela's comments...if there isn't a way (or the resources) to change the format, then I think I would vote with her and veto my original vote--I would HATE for anyone to migrate away from this group!

I think its a great idea.

  • joel7th November, 2002

Well, here is the deal. My ultimate goal originally for this site was to make the forums not only easy to navigate, but to be the fastest loading around. When I started it was taking around 30 seconds on a 22k speed modem to download the main page. Our competitors pages still currently takes over 60 seconds to completely load.

About a couple of months ago we found out how to turbo charge the server so that it would load faster. We have done it as well. Our pages now load under 10 seconds on a 22k modem connection. The only way to get faster than that is to have no pictures on the website. I do agree with Michaela AND with Positive. But I think since we will have multiple categories, it is easier to go directly to the forum of choice that Michaela and other investors want to frequent. Anybody agree??

    michaela,

Here is another way of viewing our site much faster. I just found this tonight.

Your explanation of what goes on behind these screens, Joel, makes CREI seem easy!! Thanks, Mr.

  • JohnLocke8th November, 2002

    The problem is...

There are some of us here who cut our real estate message board teeth on ones that scroll.

We click on forums and up pops the scrolling message board concerning that particular forum.

I am not one who takes time to search around for anything on a web site, I want it now, but this site has proven to be a great place to come and share with other posters in a congenial and learning atmosphere. Those that post on other boards understand what I mean. To me it takes a little extra effort to navigate this site but actually well worth it.

So I will support Joel and his efforts to make this site number one in the real estate industry.

If I can just get Joel to show me where the forums are I will check there from time to time.

    joel,

you have a great site here and i know you've put a lot of hard work into it to make it that.

don't bother changing anything for me. the thing is, even if it were loading faster i would probably not click on the other forums, because there're just too many for me to sit here and check each one.. if everybody else is fine with doing it the way it is now, then it's right the way it is.

    Your busting me up!

I think another reason for having multiple forums instead of just a couple is so the moderators like John can move topics to categorize them better. Let's say Joe Shmoe wants to look in the Forclosure forum for 'short sales'. With these forums, it is a lot easier to search for what you want.

I totally agree....but sometimes there is so much good information...I get lost on where I found it. I actually have to print some of the material. (My brain is like hard drive sometimes....some thing has to go for me to put something in)

I just wish there was a way to bookmark your need to keep info....I'm an website desinger myself...and know how much work you have put in on the site...works really well for such a large site.

    Keep up the good work.
