What Is A PLUS Score?

ttubbiola profile photo

I just got results from a dispute I filed with Experian (3 off, 5 to go) and they are giving me my PLUS score. This seems to be their own version of a FICO score. How useful is this? How does it relate to my FICO score? Should I even bother to track this?

Thanks for any info,
Tom

The Experian PLUS Score is a numeric representation of your financial behavior and is based upon the information in your credit file. Your PLUS Score can range between 330 and 830, with a higher credit score indicating a lower risk.

Thanks Dave, I did know that already.

I just want to know if any lenders use it for anything. I usually get my FICO score not this PLUS thing.

The plus score, If you read the Experian site, is Experians FICO score. If you got the 3 in 1 then it is the average score.

For your information there are many different fico scores. If you were to go to a car dealership and pull your credit they would get a different FICO than if you had gonr to a mortgage broker to pull it.

Not all creditors report to all bureaus and not all murchants pull all 3, sometimes one sometimes two.

So depending on who reported what and where, your score will be different.

No one can say " I am a.........."

There is also what is called a mid score, and so it goes.

In other words your score can be and will always be a "range", including this PLUS score thing. So yes it is usefull..it's a guide not a bible.

Every credit information bureau has it's own scoring system that rather defer a bit then too much as someone mentioned above. If and when pulled buy different merchants (in the same time-frame), your credit score is always going to be the same if it comes from the same bureau, unless the grooving number of inquiries begins to effect it.

Experian has changed to Plus Score however; it differs greatly from a FICO score. I ran my own and between 3 different agencies, Experian has lowered mine by 47 points. Now this is within a month and nothing has changed but there way of figuring it out...way off base

The above made some good points but they forgot one.
A car dealership, a mortgage company, and sears will all use a different scoring system when evaluating credit.

So depending on what you are trying to accomplish you would want to track it.
