The Mercy Of A Credit Card Agency

joecrane profile photo

Situation:
I paid off all of my credit card debt before I went to Iraq in September of last year. In December, I received notice (at my home in the US) that my Capital One card membership fee was due. Because I had someone checking my mail on an irregular basis, it was paid late and now I have a 30 day late note on my Capital One card.

Question:
I have heard that you can tell credit cards that you were under special circumstances and that you had intentions to pay late but were unaware of the payment since the card was paid off. If I do this:

1) Has anyone heard of this working

2) If I send it certified, do they have to fix it or dispute it like the credit reports?

Thanks,

Joe

    Joe,

Thank you for your service to our country. We salute you and are extremely grateful for your service during our time of need.

    To your question:
I would write them a "goodwill redemption letter" or something like this. No matter what they tell you, they can remove (and add) whatever they want to. Check your private messages. Definitely send the letter CMRRR (Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested).
