I am wondering if any of you fine folks could tell me what happens to all the other leins (i.e. County Tax, School Tax) when a person buys a home at a Sheriff Sale. Is the Sheriff sal purchaser liable for the balance or the former property owner?
To answer your question, the buyer is responsible for all liens associated with the property. This is why due diligence is a crucial step in acquiring an auctioned property of any sort. Most of this information can be found at the city/county builing or even (some of it) on the county website. There is alot of $$$ to be made with sheriff sales......if you know what you're doing.....especially in Pgh.

Every deal that the sheriff held the deed "DeFazio" the other liens and judgements were wiped out. They are given notice of when the property is being sold, that is why it takes so long in Allegheny County to get a deed back. I can't remember the act # but it is used to get title insurance for most Sherriff's Sales. I will get the # when I go to my office tomorrow and post it for you.
