FICO Score Dropped 41 Points Because Of Dispute

brucet60 profile photo

I disputed some items on my credit report about 3 days ago, and it seems my score dropped 41 pts. because of it!!! Nothing else seems different (except for the fact that I paid off 4000 dollars in cc debt in August and it STILL hasnt been reported to the cra's..anyone here know why that would happen?

The credit card company has just been slow updating your file apparently. It could easily be another 30 days. Normally when I pay a bill off I always request a letter stating a $0 balance from the creditor and then send a copy of that letter or statment to the credit bureau with a letter requesting that reflection of a $0 balance be shown in my credit report. I never leave it up to the creditors but that still can take up to 30 days because I am sure that they verify that with the creditor.

It's obvious but it is always harder to get the score up but easy to get it down. The system is designed that way and credit card companies are quick to report negatives and slow on postives (bad scores equal higher rates and more $) your follow up is a very good idea.
