I just got off the phone with my credit card customer service and lowered my rate down to 6.5%

Not sure why I never thought of this before.

Worked for me with all my 3 Credit Cards with Capital One. Actually took longer then 3 minutes but it got the job Done. I simply Read them the Script and they transfered me to there "Retention Dept" and Totally Did what they could to keep me happy.

I gotta laugh - I was reading this post as I was on the phone to the CC company - to do just what was mentioned (again).

I was able to go from 9.9% to 2.9% for the life of the balance.

Took 20 minutes, but worth it - saved $100 a month.

do they check your credit in order to do that?

  • InActive_Account20th February, 2005

I really doubt they would - I believe they are required to tell you if they are taking a hard pull. I would ask just in case. Good luck!

Thanks to whoever started this topic and posted the links.

I called Citi Cards and they said my current rate was 11.49% and that they could not, offer me a lower rate, however, they could send me checks to write on the account instead of paying by plastic (11.49%) I could just write the checks and I would be paying... drum roll please

    0% APR

They said they would send me 3 checks on the account.. Three I said.. I would like 10 checks to write on the account..."Sure Mr. T, 10 checks it is, please allow 30 days to receive the checks and thanks for calling Citi cards"

    MIKET!!!!!!

BE AWARE>>>>> Those checks with have a service charge on them!!! Normally up to $50 per check just to use them. THEN, once you use them, any payments you make on the card will go toward the 0% portion and whatever you had on there before will keep growing with the 11% interest.

    I WOULD NOT DO IT.

My bank sends me these checks all the time.

I agree with Don - not smart to just write checks and add more debt. The "Hey - I got checks - lets use them." mentality is falling right into the credit card companies hands

I have used them to pay off other credit cards - but I was making a 5-10K check and transfering the balance from another card - the $50 fee is a small price to pay for that kind of money transfer. However, if you are just planing on using them at sears...I would never do that.

I would advise to NOT close any credit cards, it will lower your FICO score.

  • sKauGhTiEe30th January, 2006

Right, even if you keep 10 bucks on it, make sure all credit cards have a balance, just a very low balance.

  • TNproperties30th January, 2006

yea, we got these cards a while back when we started out.. Now with 2 mortgages in excellent standing and a 720 middle score, i would like to pay down these cards and maybe keep a 0 balance on them, raise the limit, and then apply for a capital one rewrds card which i will use.
